THE TRAIL RUNNING AND ITS RULES

"Trail" means a long distance run which takes place on hiking trails. The trails tend to traverse natural terrain: steep inclines or rough terrain sometimes may require scrambling. It is typical for trail runs to ascend and descend thousands of feet. The landscape is suggestive since you reach places often inaccessible by road.

Knowing thyself, managing your efforts without relying on someone else help, leaving the roads: these are the main reasons which induced thousand of runners to practice trail running in the United States, Europe and particularly France where in 2006 have been held around 700 races.

The trail movement is supported by solid organisations: every year hundred of races are held all over the world. There are magazines reserved to this sort of sports where you can find helpful suggestions about your diet, your training, your races. Notice books furnish you with information on the most important trail races. Thanks to the French the trail movement has its own ethics. The trail runner must be conscious of running through natural areas whose balance is precarious. For example during the race the participants are not allowed to leave rubbish. Besides, it is not allowed to benefit from personal refreshments. The participant must help a competitor in need of help or in danger. Promoting trail running events means encourage an ecocompatible tourism. It is a way to promote and increase the value of the mountain lands.
